Traditional Worship

Traditional Worship is celebrated in our sanctuary. It is grounded in Word and Sacrament, family friendly, and formed in the traditional language and liturgies of Lutheran worship. Our goal is for these services to be built on the strong foundation of our rich traditions of worship in a way that is lively, imaginative, and deep with meaning for contemporary life. Holy Communion is celebrated on the first and third Sunday of each month. Hymns are accompanied by organ or piano, and musical offerings are provided by the Calvary Choir, the Handbell Choir, the Sisters of Song, and Calvary and community members who wish to share their gifts in praise to God. Enjoy fellowship in the Narthex and Holy Grounds Coffeehouse before and after each service.

Blended Worship

Beginning in September, 2011, we offer a Blended worship service at 10:30 a.m. in our sanctuary. The style and tone of the service will be warm, lively and informal, making use of screens for visual media, while still incorporating all the key components of traditional Lutheran worship. A diverse selection of worship music will include hymns, folk, gospel, contemporary songs, and international worship songs, intended to engage all generations. We will be led in our worship by piano and guitar, along with other acoustic instrumentation. Blended Worship Music Director Nolan Weisz will work with a team of musicians who wish to offer their talents.  This will be a wonderful year of development for this new service. Come and give it a try. We would welcome your input.

Contemporary Worship

Contemporary worship at Calvary is casual, family friendly, and grounded in Word and Sacrament.  We celebrate Holy Communion each week, gather around the font to remember our Baptisms, and listen to the Good News as it is proclaimed boldly.  A live praise band leads us in the singing of popular contemporary Christian music of today and different members of our congregation rotate each week to assist in worship leadership.   Come worship with us…and enjoy your coffee too!

Mid-Week Worship

-Wednesday at the Well – Wednesdays from Labor Day through Memorial Day (excluding Lent), Calvary offers a quiet and contemplative half-hour worship service with communion, intended as a stopping place to rest and refocus midway through a busy week.     Worship begins at 6:15 pm, right after a Wednesday night meal for $2 in the church narthex. Come refresh yourself. All are welcome, and childcare is provided.

-Lent – During the 40 days leading up to Easter (beginning Ash Wednesday), Calvary offers worship services that are regarded by many as the highlight of Calvary’s church year. Wednesdays during Lent, 5:30 and 7:00 pm worship services feature a message in a theatrical form, liturgical dancers, the liturgy of Holden Evening Prayer, and communion served by Calvary’s youth.

During the week leading up to Easter (Holy Week), Calvary offers worship on Maundy Thursday and two different services for Good Friday: an interactive service for all ages mid-afternoon and a traditional Tenebrae service Friday evening.

For every evening of Lenten worship at Calvary, high school students serve dinner from 5-7 pm as a fundraiser for Calvary’s youth in the Fellowship Hall. At Calvary, Lent is the season of focus on Christ’s cross, and a snapshot of Calvary’s community together at its best.
