Calvary’s education ministry provides opportunities for youth and adults to grow in their faith. God calls us to reach out and teach each other about faith.

These education opportunities begin September 7:

Sunday School Classes -- 9:15 and 10:45 a.m. for youth ages 3 years (by August 31, 2008) through 6th grade. Please note the new times for Sunday School and worship.

Confirmation Classes -- Wednesday evenings for 7, 8 and 9 grades.

Registration for these educational opportunities is necessary. The Sunday School class lists and Confirmation small groups need to be completed by the last week in August. Having your completed registration form is essential. You can stop by the church office (Monday-Friday -- 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.). and complete the form or use the following links for printable forms (complete and return to the church office):

7th-8th Grade Confirmation Retreat
You won’t want to miss this great opportunity to enjoy the Castaway Club in Minnesota on September 26-28. Sign up and a $25 non-refundable payment can be made on orientation night. The total cost is $50. The sign up deadline will absolutely be on
Friday, September 12, at 12:00 noon. Mark your calendars now!

Crop Walk -- October 1
Each year Calvary joins other area congregations for the CROP Walk for the Hungry.
This is a servant event for all 7th-9th grade confirmation students. Calvary can have more walkers for this event. Contact Jackie (772-4897) for information.
Please contribute to a student’s efforts to fight hunger both globally and at home. Twenty-five percent of the total raised is kept in our area for local food programs.

Teachers/Volunteers Needed
Prayerfully consider sharing your time and faith with Calvary’s young people. Volunteer to teach Sunday School, be a substitute teacher, help with music or mission projects. Also needed are Confirmation Small Group Guides.  We need one or two adults for every eight students in each small group.

Call Jackie at 772-4897 or e-mail to jackie.spiros@calvarygf.org and say “YES, I CAN HELP.” Our goal by September 1 is to have all the classes and small groups equipped with teachers and leaders. Please HELP! 

Piano and/or guitar players are needed to help with Sunday School music time. Prayerfully consider teaching a class or playing music and blessing God’s children with the gifts God gave you. Team up with a friend or another parent and share the job.

11th Graders and Families Important Confirmation Dates Please mark your calendars, planners and work schedules for these dates and times that involve 11th graders and families and mentors. Affirmation of Baptism/Confirmation -- Sunday, October 26, at all services. Faith Expressions Evening -- Saturday, October 25, 6:30 p.m. Confirmation Class Pictures -- Sunday, October 12, 12:00 noon. Stole Making -- Wednesday, October 1, 6:30 p.m. in FH First meeting with parents and students -- Wed., Sept. 24, 8:00 p.m. in FH

Adult Education

Adult Education begins Sunday, September 14, at 9:15 and 10:45 a.m. in the choir room or Tuesdays, beginning September 16, at 12:10-12:50 p.m. in the choir room.

School Kits for Lutheran World Relief

You may donate at the church through September

Getting new school supplies is exciting for all children. For children affected by war, disasters, famine and poverty, a SCHOOL KIT can send a sign of God’s love. When you are school shopping in the upcoming weeks, consider buying an extra item or two to help children around the world.

Each SCHOOL KIT contains the following items:
8 1/2 x 11 inch ruled notebook
1 blunt scissors
1 - 30 centimeter/12 inch ruler
1 - pencil sharpener
6 - new unsharpened pencils with erasers
1 box of 16 or 24 crayons
1 - 2 1/2 inch eraser
Bring any of these items to church or Sunday School in August and September.
