Feed My Starving Children

Thank you for your great response to Calvary’s participation in the Feed My Starving Children MobilePack Event’s fundraising efforts thus far. In 2010 noisy offering for this totaled $7,364.08. The M&M fundraiser brought in $1,530.96 and some people are still refilling and turning these in. Sunday School kids raised $872 of this amount. Amazing! You will make a difference in helping to feed the starving children in the world as we package food on April 1, 2 and 3 with the food that you have paid for towards filling a semi load full of packaged food for them.

Our upcoming weeklong event is called “Flooding the World with Food.” It will be January 30 - February 6. We are challenging you to bring $1.14 per each member of your family one of those two Sundays. This pays for one bag of six meals, which is what we will be packaging at the event at the Public Works building in April. Any checks should be written to FMSC Event #1104-22 to assure that it goes to the correct event. In addition we would also like you to bring a nonperishable food item to church to go to a local food cupboard (again, per member of the household). Our 5th graders will have soup pots to collect the donations on February 6 and we will have tables set up at each worship service on January 30. There will be grocery carts to collect your food items at each end as well.

This is a community challenge with our efforts primarily targeting churches in our area. Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is challenging us to raise at least $5,000 that week, which they will match. This will leverage our efforts in a big way towards our end goal of $51,464 to purchase enough food to fill a semi load full of packaged food. Presently we are at about $24,000 and are striving to be at $34,000 by mid February, 2/3 way through our fundraising. This is when registration for volunteering will open up on line on the FMSC website under North Dakota (http://www.fmsc.org/page.aspx?pid=433).

Thank you so much for remaining ignited in this effort to partner with the Greater Grand Forks community in responding to God’s call to “Feed My Starving Children!”
